Fireflies
The installation ‘Fireflies’ consists of a number of portraits that have been engraved on plexiglass. The portraits flash in a different rhythm, while they interact with each other, synchronizing their flashes and producing the same rhythm. This interaction is dynamic and random.
An electronic equivalent of a firefly created by a microprocessor regulates the flash rhythm of each portrait, which functions independently at first and gradually adapts its rhythm to the rhythm of the other portraits.
As a result, while flashing randomly at first, after a while the electronic fireflies begin to synchronize due to their interaction, until they all flash with the same frequency.
A control center allows the overall observation of the process, as well as the interference in it.
